December

Hi all,
The new year is upon us, and the FAA and AMA are still trying to figure out this drone registration issue. The registration period begins on the 21st, but the AMA is now advising to hold off, but I would advise you to decide for yourself! I’d like to wish all of you Merry Christmas, and a Happy New year!

Roger Dahl

November

Hi all,
Another year is coming to the last month, and we will be wrapping up 2015 soon!
I would like to thank all of you who have been pivotal in the success of our club this year! It takes a good group to carry the load, to make things run smooth, and I really appreciate those who are willing to do it reliably, and usually without fanfare.
We will be voting in some new club officers at our meeting on Tuesday, so you all come, and if you’d like, bring your spouse!

See you then!
Rog

October

Hi All,
The leaves have started changing colors, and are jumping out of the
trees already, and soon there will be frost in the mornings!
Time to get out and fly! This time of the year has the smooth, not so windy air that we tend to deal with all summer!
Get out there and grease a few more landings while it lasts!
Thanks to Jim Corbett, and others who helped to de-thatch, and work on the field
last week! I would like to do another sanding of the runway before the soggy weather starts up, so if any of you would like to help, let me know!
Rog

September

Hey All,
How quickly summer comes and goes around here! It has been a good season, if you’re a kite flyer! Actually, the wind makes you a better pilot!  We will be having our next meeting at Abby’s Pizza, so bring your appetite, and any new projects!  I hope to see you all there!

Rog

July

Hi All,
Summer is warm, dry, sometimes windy, but I love it! I hope you all are taking advantage of these months to fly those planes!

Our club meeting is next Tuesday at the flying field, and come early to fly, or at least armchair quarterback those who do! It is time for us to plan our big summer event, so I hope to see all of you there!
I believe we will have something to eat, so bring a side dish if you can!
Thanks to all who have mowed, and watered during these dry days!
See you Tuesday,
Rog

June

Hey All,

Are you ready for summer? It is here, and it’s time to enjoy my favorite season! The Flying Field is dry, and waiting for us!

Thanks go out to those who are helping to water, and taking turns “cruising” the runway on the mowers! We are always looking to lighten the load for those who carry the majority of the club duties, so If you have some free time, and  can help out, let our field maintenance coordinator, Jim Corbett know and he will gladly assist in using your help!

Tuesday evening is our first summer club meeting at the field, so let’s make it a good one! Come early, if possible to fly!

Al promises to fire up the grill, so bring an appetite, a side dish, or at a minimum, some cash for the kitty!

I promise to keep the meeting short, so we can enjoy the evening!

See you then,

Roger

May
Hi all!
Thanks to all those helped out to put some sand down on the runway last weekend! The rain is doing it’s work, and the grass is growing, so the sand should help to smooth the runway, and help the runway to be firmer in the winter time! We are looking forward to a nice weekend, and I hope you all can join us on Monday for our Memorial Day Fun Fly! Bring out something with dust on it, and fly it! Hope to see you then!

Roger

April

The nice weather has made an appearance this week and it is sure nice to see!
I’d like to encourage all members to keep an eye out for those friends, relatives, or neighbors who might be interested in trying out this hobby and invite them to join you sometime!
Friendship can be the perfect motivation, and is often the starter pistol to get others going when many are hesitant to try on their own!
Bring something to show us at our upcoming meeting, and I’ll look forward to a good time of fellowship!
Rog

March

Hi all, well it looks like spring is springing and it’s time to get those airplanes out to the flying field to enjoy our flying season.  Hopefully we will see more of you out there.
Our next club meeting is coming up next Tuesday evening, and we would like to see you all there at Abbys pizza on River Road!
Be sure to bring your latest creation to show the rest of the club!
Roger

February

I’d like to welcome you all this month! The weather has given us some good flying weather. I hope you have been taking advantage of it.
We will be having our club meeting at Abby’s, and the club will be hosting. We hope to see you all there!
Safe flying,
Roger

January

I hope that your new year has started off with a bang! The weather has been cold and dreary but I know there has to be some models that are being built with pride out there!
The winter months can seem dark, but each day is seeing the fog stay light a minute or so longer! ??
I had the opportunity to visit the AMA show in Ontario last weekend, with Mickey Cohen. It’s official! The world is being taken over by drones! The quad copter, or “UAV” people are now referring to them as Drones! We had a nice time!
For all those who would like to come, we will be having our annual budget meeting on Saturday afternoon, the 24th, at 3 p.m. at Abby’s to line out ideas, and set the budget for this years club activities. Also, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you all to our January club meeting on the 27th at Abby’s!  Any new projects, or anything that you would like to share? Bring it There!
Stay warm, dry, and happy!

December

The Treasurer’s Corner:
It looks like we will be ending 2015 with 76 members after welcoming youth member, Brendan Van Ryzin.

Our Treasury balance is $6,596.95, as of this report.  In an effort to hand over to the new administration, the controls to this job as smoothly as possible, I’ve already paid the 2016 Field Lease, AMA Charter and insurance renewal fees.  That’s why the balance has taken such a hit since last month.  The balance usually rebounds during the next few months as you renew your ERCA memberships for 2016.  We currently have 25 members renewed.  The deadline to renew without penalty is the March 2016 meeting.  After that a $25 reinstatement fee is charged because those members have to be resurrected from Inactive status.

This will be my final column as your Treasurer.  After eight years of serving ERCA as both Secretary and Treasurer, I look back over those years and see a lot of good progress that has been made by a great team effort.  No one can fly a plane the size of ERCA alone and I’m honored and privileged to have served with such a professional team that knows how to get things done with great volunteer spirits and can-do attitudes.  I humbly thank the entire club for your faith and trust in allowing me to handle the club’s business, looking after your interests and landing us safely under budget.

I look forward to joining the member ranks and staying as active as my new mission, President of the Fern Ridge Kiwanis Club will allow.  I will be available to assist in making the transition for the incoming Treasurer, Jeff Lutz and Secretary, Dave Fenner, as smooth as possible.  Please give them the same great support that I have enjoyed over the past eight years.

As always, happy landings.

AL Barrington
Treasurer, ERCA

November

Our membership remains at 75 and the treasury balance is $7,894.07.

The November meeting is elections of ERCA officers for 2016.  So, come and cast your vote for those you want to see lead ERCA through the next year. We look forward to seeing you all at the River Road Abby’s Pizza parlor for our final business meeting of the year.  This meeting the pizza and soft drinks are on the club.

Thanks for another great year.

Happy landings.

AL Barrington

October

As of this report, our membership remains at 75 with rumors of a prospective member who may be joining us soon.
The Treasury balance is $8,157.54.Remember, the October 27th meeting will be nominations for 2016 club officers. Elections will be at the November 24th “Pizza meeting”.
If you have renewed your AMA membership for 2016 then remember it’s
renewal time for your ERCA membership as well. You can take care of it person at the meetings, at the field, or by mailing to: ERCA, PO Box 26344, Eugene, OR 97402. Make checks payable to ERCA. The dues rates are
posted in the bylaws. See the web site.
Thanks again to all who came out to the field for the work party earlier this month. We got a lot accomplished in a short bit of time. Many hands do make for light work.
As I mentioned at the last meeting, I will be absent at this month’s meeting due to travel
plans. I’ll have the Treasury report prepared and submitted to the President in time for the meeting.Have a good meeting. I’ll look forward to seeing you at the field or at the November 24th meeting.
Happy landings.
AL Barrington
Treasurer, ERCA

September

Our membership is at 75. The treasury balance is currently at $8,292.60.
As reported at the August meeting Monster Fest 2015 brought in $1,427.00. After all the bills were paid our net was $981.41.  With that, ERCA was able to send a $300 check to AMA for our contribution toward the combined effort to support The Wounded Warrior Project as part of AMA’s National Model Aviation Day 2015.  Thanks to everyone who helped make it all possible.
With the change in the weather and the shorter days we will be moving our meetings back indoors starting with our next one coming up on September 22nd.  We will be meeting back at the River Road Abby’s Pizza in Eugene.  At the coming meeting we will open nominations for 2016 ERCA Officers.  Be thinking of whom you feel would best represent the interests of the club in the offices of: President – currently Roger Dahl, Vice President – currently Mel “JR” Graham, Secretary – currently Don Hansen, Treasurer – currently AL Barrington, and Safety Coordinator – Currently Mike Burgess.
We will also be taking nominations for Member of the Year.  Awarded to any member for the most dedication and significant contribution in support of ERCA.
Be on the lookout for a better (quieter) meeting place.  We are open to suggestions from the membership for the coming new year.
The officer position of Treasurer will be open this coming year.  I will need to step down after serving in that capacity for the ninth straight year and combined Secretary for seven of those nine.  I am answering the call to serve my community of Fern Ridge as the future President of the Fern Ridge Kiwanis.  I will be helping lead a very active group of people in community service projects and fund raisers to support Doernbecher’s Children’s Hospital and many other worthy local charitable efforts.  I plan to spend much of the coming year working with the new Treasurer to minimize the impact on the club and make for a smooth transition.   Thank you for your trust over the years.  It has been my honor to serve as both your past Secretary and Treasurer.
Keep ’em flying and as always, happy landings.
AL Barrington

Happy Landings.

June
Our membership is currently at 73 after welcoming our newest members, Ken Chikasuye and Robin Wood.  Our treasury balance is at $7,633.80.

We look forward to seeing everyone at our first field meeting of the season. Don’t worry about dinner before the meeting.  Arrive early and get in some flying and enjoy a potluck barbeque which starts about 5:30 pm.  ERCA will provide AL’s grilled burgers, hotdogs and soft drinks.  We ask members to bring a side dish to share and/or give generously to the donation bucket so we can keep on having more meeting barbecues.  My wife, Gerry, has volunteered another bowl of her club famous tater salad.

Happy Landings.

May

Our membership remains at 70 as of this report.  The treasury balance is at $7,398.85.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the field Monday, May 25th for the annual Memorial day fun fly.  It’s open flying for all members and AMA guests.  There’s lot’s of room for spectators.  Of course the main reason for the holiday is to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to give us the freedom to have this event.  At about noon, ERCA will provide burgers, hotdogs, and soft drinks.  The trimmings will be pot luck, so bring your favorite dish to share.

This month’s meeting will be Tuesday, the 26th following Memorial Day.  It will be our last meeting for a while at the River Road Abby’s Pizza parlor at 7pm.  Our June, July and August meetings will be at the field.

Happy Landings.

AL Barrington
Secretary, ERCA

April
As of this report, our membership is at 70 and our treasury balance is at $8,688.22.
ERCA Goes to Church – On April 18th I gave a presentation of ERCA and our activities during the Men’s Breakfast at Fern Ridge Christian Church in Elmira.  Special thanks to President Roger Dahl and Dale Barth for attending and bringing planes for show and tell, and assisting
with the presentation. The breakfast is part of the church’s Men’s Ministry and there were 15 men in attendance.  The Men’s Ministry is introducing men to local opportunities to bridge gaps and have more fellowship with other like-minded people. There was genuine interest in
model flying among everyone there and we hope this community outreach brings more people to join us in what we enjoy.
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the field taking advantage of the great flying weather we’ve been having and also at the next meeting, Tuesday night, April 28th, 7pm, at the River Rd Abby’s Pizza. (No Host)
Happy Landings,
AL Barrington
Treasurer, ERCA

March

ERCA is up to 65 members after welcoming Kurt Hiner at our last meeting.
The next meeting is March 24th, at 7pm, at the River Road Abby’s Pizza (No Host this month).  This is the last chance for members who have not yet renewed their ERCA memberships to avoid the $25 reinstatement fee. Currently there are still 21 members from 2014 not yet renewed.
Only a couple of them have contacted me to confirm their intentions.  Members on the inactive roster have no voting rights or access to member privileges.  I need to finalize our club roster with AMA by the end of March for the insurance coverage.
The current ERCA Treasury balance is $8,114.52.
Spring is finally here and we look forward to another fun flying season.
Happy landings.
AL Barrington
Treasurer, ERCA

February

As of this report ERCA is at 59 members with 26 members from 2014 yet to renew.  Remember, the renewal deadline is the March 24th meeting after which un-renewed members are transferred to the inactive roster and a $25 reinstatement is added.
We welcome new youth member, Elizabeth Fellman, daughter of Scott Fellman.
There are no other new member applications pending.
In Memory:  ERCA bids a final farewell to member, Dave Bennett Sr., who passed away earlier this month.  He joined ERCA in April of 2012 with his son Dave Bennett Jr.  It is his family’s generous wish that his memory live on through his plane collection which is being offered for sale with the proceeds to be donated to ERCA.  Details to follow on this later after the family has had time to process more pressing matters.  Right now our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and we wish them peace.

The treasury balance is at $7986.52

Birthdays during January & February – Mel Graham Sr., Greg Knecht, Ron Knox, Tom Kopriva, Don Schiltz, and Pat Willis,   Sorry if I missed anyone.  There are members who still show blank on that data field.
I was recently invited to set up a static display in the Fern Ridge Service Center in Veneta.  It was a great success.  Besides showing a few planes, I passed out club literature and gave anyone who wanted a chance to try the RC Flight Simulator.  I hope we see them again as future fliers at our field.
We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the meeting Tuesday, February 24th, at the River Road Abby’s Pizza, 7 pm.  This meeting the pizza is on the club.  I’ll get there early to help anyone who wants to take care of their membership renewal, save time and avoid the postage.  I’ll have your new member card there and ready for you.

Happy landings.
AL Barrington
Treasurer, ERCA

January

We ended 2014 with 86 members and $8,588.52 in the treasury.  So far in 2015 we have 45 members renewed with one prospective member waiting to be voted in at our next meeting.  We welcome Braton Jurasevich from Eugene.
The executive board will be holding a budget meeting just before the January club meeting to hammer out the fiscal forecast for the coming year.  We will be discussing where to best allocate our resources to not only keep the regular bills paid but to plan for improvements to our flying field.  We also must allow for those unexpected expenses that come up from time to time.  We welcome all input.  We will have the 2015 budget proposal ready to present, discuss and vote on by the January 27th meeting.
I will be accepting membership renewals before and after the meeting.  Come prepared with your new AMA card or proof of renewal.  Avoid the postage and save time in getting your new ERCA card.
We hope to see you all there at the River Rd Abby’s Pizza at 7pm on Tuesday, January 27th.  Remember, this meeting is “no host” meaning everyone picks up their own tab.
Otherwise, membership renewals can be mailed to:
ERCA
PO Box 26344
Eugene, OR  97402

or use PayPal to: albarrington@msn.com
Thank you for your continued support.
Happy landings.
